A RIDE OF HOPE

It was drizzling and just about to rain. I could see the cloud heavy. I was driving to get lunch at a restaurant when I saw this man at a distance flagging down cars but none seemed to be going his way. Just as I was approaching him, the rain started very heavily. I quickly pulled over and opened the door for him. I asked him to enter quickly.

He jumped into the car, closed it, and thanked me.

I asked him where he was going and he told me he was going to pick up his wife at the general hospital. They were already waiting for him with his newborn baby, and he has been trying to get an empty car to get his wife's things.

As we drove he glanced around my car and turned to me.

"You are not a Taxi driver abi?"

I told him I was not.

"I just noticed that if you keep standing there, the rain will wet you. So I decided to pick you up."

He chuckled and thanked me.

I told him I was going to buy food but would drop him at the general hospital first before proceeding to buy food. I asked him where his house was. He said it was not far from the junction I had picked him.

"Just inside that street." He described.

I told him I would come back and pick up his wife and baby before rushing back. He was very happy.

I dropped him at the gate of the hospital, took his number, and went to buy my food. While coming back 20 minutes later, I called him and he emerged from the hospital with his wife and baby. I helped them load the baby items, flask, and other stuff into the boot. The wife entered the car with the baby and we drove off.

I had to drop them off at home as I promised.

But this is why I shared this story.

In the car, the man told me that he wished his mother was alive to see that his wife was not barren as she claimed. And he was not impotent as his mother-in-law had said.

He told me that he and his wife had been married for 10 years without a child and had seen hell at the hands of both women.

As I listened he said.

" These women acted like it was a planned meeting. My mother will tell me to leave my wife. My wife's mother will tell her to leave this impotent man. We suffered o."

He told me that his secret wish was for them to be alive to see his child.

"I want to see the looks on their faces. How they will act now. How they will apologize for what they did. And how they would live in peace. If I had one wish I would use it to experience what that moment feels like."

Out of everything they told me, I picked one lesson.

You see , no matter how long you've waited. No matter the challenges and trials you've faced from people because of your condition, you should never lose hope. As long as you are still breathing, that miracle you've been waiting for is just around the corner and it will locate you soon.

Just believe.
